Libertas Estates Winery
We love the land, and strive to maintain the natural beauty of it in harmony with the surrounding countryside. The farm is 127 acres, and includes a 10-acre vineyard, a duck program, and 60 acres of cropland managed by a neighboring farmer. We use sustainable practices, as far as possible, in all our farming practices.
The vineyard was planted in 2015, after thorough assessment and preparation of the ground. It was found to be well suited for growing grapes based on elevation and soil characteristics in particular soil type and drainage patterns. We selected grape varieties that we enjoy and do well in the Eastern United States, and pair well with food produced in the region.
We are surrounded by farms which too strive to maintain the beauty of the area in a sustainable way, and are fun to visit. Our neighbors have farm stores, creameries, breweries, wineries, and coffee shops in the setting of beautiful countryside, with areas to walk or bicycle ride.

We all have a common interest in creating and maintaining the farm in the most healthy and sustainable way, and producing good fruit which we believe is the key to good wine.
The Wines
Pinot Gris
Originally from Burgundy, France, Pinot Gris dates to the Middle Ages. It is related to Pinot Noir and makes a medium to full bodied wine. We harvest the grapes early to retain refreshing acidity and to minimize excess fruitiness. Its flavors are often citrus, lemon and lime, and can include tropical fruit like melon and mango. It is best to drink at cooler temperatures, ideally 48 F, and should be allowed to breath for 10 minutes after opening before drinking. Pairs well with lighter meals, including seafood, crab, lobster, mussels, cod, and snapper, salads, and mild cheeses.
Viognier [ Vee-own-yay]
It is an ancient grape originally from Croatia and grown by the Romans in the Rhone Valley in Southern France. It is a full-bodied white wine known for its floral aromas, mild natural sweetness and often fermented in oak. The flavors are often apricot, peach, honey suckle, and tangerine. Pairs well with lean meats such as chicken or pork. It also pairs well and balances out the flavors of spicy and smoky foods, such as Thai cuisine. Best served at 50-55 F. Our Viognier is generally harvested in early September. We consider it light and enchanting.
Cabernet Franc
This grape was established in South West France in the 17th century and is grown worldwide. Cabernet Franc can be crossed with Sauvignon Blanc to produce Cabernet Sauvignon. Our Cabernet Franc 2021 vintage is lighter than our 2022 variety, which has a bolder taste. Cabernet Franc typically has distinctive herbaceous and bell pepper aromas, at times strawberries and raspberries. It should be served slightly below room temperature, 60-68 F and should be decanted for 30 minutes.
